The Director of Public Prosecutions Mike Chibita has directed that 8 out of the 20 suspects said to have plotted the murder of former AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi be tried before the International Crimes Division of the High court.
The directive has been contained in committal papers read out to Court this morning by Nakawa Grade one magistrate Noah Sajjabi to the 8 suspects.
Sajjabi has explained to court that even though state prosecutors are on strike, he received instructions from the DPP TO ha e the suspects committed for trial.
He has however said police investigations in respect of the remaining 12 suspects are still on- going and further remanded them back to Luzira prison but advised them to apply for bail on the next adjournment date of 31st/August 2017 because their mandatory remand period of 180 days has lapsed.
The committed suspects are facing charges of Murder, terrorism and aggravated defilement for which they will formally plead to before a panel of 3 justices.
The DPP says at the trial in the High court, he will adduce evidence to the effect that on the 17th/March 2017 at Kulambiro in Nakawa division with in Kampala city, the suspects conspired together to murder AIGP Kaweesi, his body guard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Wambewa.
The 8 suspects have also been returned back to Luzira prison waiting to appear before the 3 judges at the next convenient criminal session of the ICD court.
