Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, who has been linked with a move away from the London club next season, has admitted he does not like to “chase after the ball” – something he has been criticised for. Despite his obvious quality in possession, the 2014 FIFA World Cup winner has often received stick from fans for appearing lazy on the field.
Ozil does not press opposition defenders the way his teammate Alexis Sanchez, for example, does, and he has now admitted that that is simply is not his game. “I’m not the type of player to chase after the ball the whole time, everyone knows that,” the German playmaker told Sport Bild. “My potential lies far more on the offensive side.
“I’m supposed to be dangerous, create chances, score goals. When I don’t get the ball, that’s difficult.”
