Cristiano Ronaldo bizarre bust unveiled as Real Madrid star jets in to name airport after himself.
The Portugal star was raised on Madeira and his family still live on the island he calls home, despite leaving to start his football career at the age of 16. And he still remains a huge favourite with the population on Madeira, thousands of whom queued to catch a glimpse of their idol.
The Real Madrid superstar is back in his island homeland, having played for Portugal here on Tuesday night followed by Wednesday morning’s ceremony.
The rebranding of Madeira’s airport, now named as ‘Aeroporto Cristiano Ronaldo’, has received a mixed reception but Ronaldo spoke of his pride while telling those against the move ‘I never asked for this’.
